Your possible pathways
Fertility preservation
Preservation may create an opportunity for future treatment. It cannot preserve certainty. It is useful to understand the process, future decisions and costs before thinking of frozen eggs, sperm or embryos as an insurance policy.

Medical and personal reasons
Fertility preservation may be discussed before treatment that could affect reproductive function, or for personal reasons where pregnancy is not planned now. If a medical treatment is imminent, ask the treating team for prompt specialist advice rather than delaying necessary care while researching online.
Egg freezing in outline
Egg freezing usually involves ovarian stimulation, monitoring and egg collection. The eggs are stored and may later be thawed for use in treatment. Not every collected egg will be mature, survive thawing, fertilise or become an embryo leading to a birth. The number stored is not the number of future children.
Ask about the relevant outcome
Discuss age at freezing, the likely response to stimulation, the clinic’s experience and the limits of outcome estimates. Avoid a headline percentage without knowing whether it describes egg survival, pregnancy after transfer or live birth. Ask which patients are included in the figure.
Storage is an ongoing decision
Consent, permitted storage periods and what happens if contact is lost depend on the jurisdiction. Ask about renewal, ongoing costs, future use, transport and your choices if you no longer want storage. Read the actual terms and keep contact details up to date with the provider.
The later treatment matters too
The initial procedure and storage are not the whole pathway. Ask what future treatment would involve and cost, where it could take place and what assessment would be needed then. The circumstances at the time of pregnancy still matter even when gametes were frozen earlier.
Make a decision you can revisit
Record what matters most to you, which uncertainties remain and whether you want another professional conversation before proceeding. Your priorities may change. It is reasonable to ask for explanations without agreeing to a package on the day of the consultation.
Questions people ask
Is freezing a guarantee?
No. The HFEA explicitly describes egg freezing as an option without a guarantee of a baby.
Is an AMH result a reason to panic?
AMH can help inform expected response to stimulation, but is not a stand-alone forecast of natural conception or a complete decision about preservation.
